What Is a Compounding Pharmacy?
A compounding pharmacy prepares medications that are customized for individual patients. Instead of dispensing mass-manufactured pills and injectables in fixed doses, a compounding pharmacist creates formulations based on a physician's specific prescription — adjusting the dosage, delivery method, or combination of ingredients to match what a particular patient needs.
This is not a new concept. Pharmacy compounding is one of the oldest practices in medicine. Before the rise of large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing in the mid-20th century, virtually every prescription was compounded by hand. Today, compounding pharmacies fill a critical gap: they provide medications that are unavailable commercially, discontinued by manufacturers, or needed in a dose or form that standard products don't cover.
In the Philippines, compounding remains a recognized and legal function of licensed pharmacists under Republic Act No. 10918, the Philippine Pharmacy Act of 2016. Section 30 of the law authorizes registered pharmacists to compound and dispense prescription medications, provided they follow Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Laboratory Practice, and Good Dispensing Practice guidelines set by the Philippine FDA.
Despite this, the Philippines has very few dedicated compounding pharmacies. Out of roughly 40,000 registered drug outlets nationwide, dedicated compounding facilities can be counted on one hand. Most Filipino patients and doctors have never had access to one.
ObraRx exists to change that.
Why Compounding Matters for Filipino Patients and Doctors
The Philippine healthcare system relies heavily on commercially manufactured medications distributed through retail pharmacy chains. For most common conditions, this works. But it breaks down in several important situations.
When the right dose doesn't exist commercially. Manufactured medications come in fixed strengths. If a patient needs a dose between those fixed options — or a lower starting dose for titration — a compounding pharmacy can prepare exactly what the doctor prescribes.
When a medication is unavailable or in shortage. Drug shortages are a persistent problem globally, and the Philippines is not immune. When a commercially manufactured product is out of stock, back-ordered, or not yet registered with the Philippine FDA, compounding can provide a legal alternative based on a valid prescription.
When patients need a different delivery method. Some patients cannot swallow tablets. Others need topical formulations instead of oral ones, or injectable preparations instead of capsules. Compounding allows physicians to prescribe the same active ingredient in the form that works best for their patient.
When cost is a barrier to treatment. Branded medications — particularly newer biologics and specialty drugs — can be prohibitively expensive in the Philippines. A single Ozempic pen retails for ₱7,500 or more at major pharmacy chains. Compounded alternatives, prepared from pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, can make treatment accessible to patients who would otherwise go without.
When clinics need a pharmacy partner they can trust. Many physicians in aesthetic medicine, integrative health, endocrinology, and weight management need a compounding partner that can prepare formulations reliably, with proper documentation and quality controls. Most retail pharmacies don't offer this.
What We Compound
ObraRx is launching with a focus on GLP-1 receptor agonists — specifically compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide. These are among the most in-demand medications in the Philippines and globally, driven by strong clinical evidence for weight management and type 2 diabetes.
Our compounding menu is expanding. Current and planned formulation categories include:
GLP-1 Compounds — Semaglutide and tirzepatide in sterile injectable form. Prepared under strict aseptic conditions following USP standards. Designed for clinics offering medical weight management and metabolic health programs.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) — Bioidentical hormones compounded in doses and delivery forms tailored to individual patients. For physicians practicing hormone optimization, menopause management, and andrology.
Peptide Compounding — Research-supported peptides compounded to pharmaceutical standards for use under physician supervision.
Dermatological Preparations — Topical formulations for aesthetic and dermatological practices. Custom concentrations, combination preparations, and specialized bases.
Additional Formulations — We compound a range of prescription medications based on physician orders. If you have a specific formulation need, contact us to discuss.
Our Approach to Quality and Compliance
Compounding is only as good as the systems behind it. Every compound we prepare follows a documented process with full traceability from raw materials to finished product.
Pharmacist-supervised preparation. Every formulation is verified and overseen by a licensed pharmacist. No compound leaves our facility without pharmacist sign-off.
Pharmaceutical-grade ingredients. We source only USP-grade active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients from qualified, audited suppliers.
USP compliance. Our sterile compounding operations follow United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Chapter 797 guidelines for sterile preparations and USP 795 for non-sterile compounding. These are the same standards used by compounding pharmacies in the United States and internationally.
Batch documentation. Every compound comes with complete batch records, including a Certificate of Analysis. Prescribers receive full documentation for their patient files.
FDA LTO. ObraRx operates under the licensing framework of the Philippine Food and Drug Administration. We are committed to full regulatory compliance as we build and scale our operations.
How It Works for Doctors and Clinics
We built ObraRx as a compounding partner for healthcare providers. The process is simple.
Step 1 — Inquire. Fill out the partner inquiry form or contact us directly. We'll schedule a 20-minute call to understand your practice and compounding needs.
Step 2 — Prescribe. You prescribe as you normally would. Send us the prescription through our ordering workflow, which we set up during onboarding.
Step 3 — We compound. Our pharmacist team verifies the prescription, compounds the medication, and prepares it for delivery with full documentation.
Step 4 — Delivery. We deliver to your clinic or directly to your patient. Cold-chain delivery is available for temperature-sensitive compounds. Metro Manila delivery is standard, with provincial delivery available for qualifying areas.
You retain full clinical authority over your prescribing decisions. ObraRx holds the pharmaceutical accountability for the compound. Everything is documented, traceable, and pharmacist-verified.
